Best Beach Area Near Cancun

My husband and a couple friends and I are planning our first trip in over a year, and we want to go lie on a nice beach in Mexico. We would like to go in the Cancun area, but we are flexible and don't need to go right to Cancun. We are in our 30s so we're not trying to go clubbing every night, we just want a nice resort with a great beach and it would be cool if the nearby town had something interesting/cultural about it.

Any suggestions? I am seeing Isla Mujeres, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, but really don't know too much about the area.
