Canmore AB conditions?

We're heading to Canmore the first week of January. I've been anxiously watching Nordic Pulse and weather reports but it doesn't look promising. Please tell me its better than what I'm seeing. Any good places to ski other than the Nordic Center we should know about?

How about downhill conditions at Nikiska?
