Xbox Developer Direct (2025 Predictions)

I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday season! With the year coming to an end, January begins and the expectations of a Xbox Developer Direct approach later in the month. The Developer Direct started in 2023 so this will only be the third that they would be posting. The previous events were hosted on January 25th, 2023 and January 18th, 2024, so I would be expecting this years to be hosted on the 22nd or 23rd. Lets review what was discussed/revealed during the previous Directs.

Developer Direct 2023:

  • Minecraft Legends
  • Forza Motorsport
  • Elder's Scroll Online: Necrom
  • Redfall
  • Hi-Fi Rush (Surprise Reveal and Release)

Developer Direct 2024:

  • Avowed
  • Senua's Saga: Hellblade II
  • Visions of Mana
  • Ara: History Untold
  • Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

These shows have typically been just under an hour long and less robust than the showcase that is usually in June, but have shown a decent amount of variety. What are some peoples predictions? Is there anything people are excited about? I'm gonna list a couple possibilities or talking points below.

  • Avowed - Potentially a small trailer prior to its release in February to remind everyone.
  • South of Midnight - Was announced for 2025, I see this as a game that gets released in the first half of the year. We had the gameplay trailer and a BTS documentary, so it appears to be later in development.
  • Replaced - Airwaves have been quiet for this game for awhile, not sure when they would potentially release it but I think this is a good time to give it some screen time.
  • Towerborne - I believe this has been in Game Preview/Beta testing/etc for awhile now. I think the Direct is when the full release gets announced.

Held for the Game Showcase (June)?

  • Oblivion Remaster - This has been in the rumor mill since the Microsoft Document leak. The timing seems right, but 2025 is looking chock-full of RPG released.
  • Fable - This would seem to be their late year/holiday release. The difficulty may be in finding the window to release it with COD and potentially GTA VI coming out this fall. If GTA VI is confirmed for Nov/Dec I can see Fable releasing in late September, otherwise they may take the Holiday release.
  • Doom: The Dark Ages - I think this ends up being a summer release, we could possibly see it coming out just before the direct in May though.
  • 33 Immortals - I think this also gets a summer release. Seems to be far along and playable for the last couple events/shows.
  • Call of Duty: TBA - Seems pretty obvious to have your largest game held until the showcase or a later event.
