Gilded Time

John works at the train station. Specifically, he is a guard at the station where he has the daytime shift. He always loved trains as a kid and dreamed about driving his own locomotive and sounding the horn for everyone to hear, but that dream was shattered when he found out there was no openings for conductors , however there was an opening for a security guard. Little did he realize that by taking that job opening, he would waste the next 10 years of his life living in hell. The pay was good and the coworkers were nice. He even made a friend, her name being Linda, they talked to each other whenever they had a break and got along rather well. But that wasn't what made it horrible, no what made it horrible was all the people at the station. But John had to deal with it. Everyday he had to deal with thousands of them, each one wanting to make their loud, annoying noises 6 days a week, every week. He had asked to be transferred to a different department or even the night shift numerous times already, but his superior said it wasn't possible to do that currently, though he did sympathize with him and said he is doing everything he can to make it possible, but until then, John had to keep working away at the station. One day while he was in the middle of his shift, a cat appered. It had long brown fur with white and black spots. He wasn’t surprised, after all, a stray cat or dog or a bird flying in was far from new there at the station. Once there was even a few deers there, however this cat was different from the others, it had something in its mouth, a pocket watch, a black pocket watch with gold furnishing on it. It was strangely familiar to him. Even though he knew he's never seen it before. He called over the cat, even though he knew he shouldn’t, and pet it. while petting it he took the pocket watch and inspected it. It looked very expensive, and was quite heavy, meaning it was real gold and not some light and cheap metal in gold coating. He was making his way to the lost and found area when a sudden urge to open the watch and take a look at the time, even though one of the biggest clocks he had ever seen was in the same station as him. While he was wondering whether or not to open it. Linda came over to him and asked why a cat was following him. He forgot about the cat completely while thinking about the clock. He explained everything to her, after a while she said that they should open it, just to see if it's broken or not. John was sure that she also had the strange need to open it, but he wasn’t sure how or why he knew that. Regardless he opened it, and that was how a new, yet mysterious door opened for John and Linda.
