Ward Business is Booming and an Introductory Guide!
It’s dangerous these days. Wizard wars, riots, unethical spells. All terrible banes to the wizarding community. Thankfully, that just means good business for me! Wards and glyphs are all the rage among the old and paranoid wizards who think some ancient evil or archrival is out to kill them once and for all. I even have a client today who thinks some flame guy is out to get him. So, who better protects against fire than a sentient fire. Fighting fire with fire and all that. Anyways, here’s an in the field run-through for you apprentice glyph-crafters.
Firstly, figure out the direct threats to the client. In this case, they’re protecting against some strange boogeyman with fire magic and a spear. Luckily for me, this guy is loaded, so not only do we start with a basic fire protective ward, but also a more advanced spell such as The Ward of Jotunheim’s Winter, which gives excellent resistance to both fire and ice. Now, for the protection against spears, while a simple ward could protect against a normal spear, we’re going to assume it’s magical for good measure. So, with a combination of Mithril Skin, Emergency Shielding, and a Warding Wind glyphs, that should be plenty to protect against basic attacks. For extra measures, I have implemented a last resort teleportation rune to send them to one of their towers or a friendly city, decided at random that can be activated when death is imminent.
This handles the basic wards for the basic problems, but a true master of wards thinks five steps ahead. So what else can fire do? Most obviously is collateral destruction that goes hand-in-hand with pyromancy. How do we handle that? By warding the clients home. A simple gravity alteration rune should make any rubble weightless if it sustains sufficient damage. But what if they don’t destroy the area but instead use fire to burn up all the oxygen in the room? Well, that’s why we have glyphs that will activate small portals to the elemental plane of air in the event that air concentration is displaced too heavily. I actually recommend implementing these runes everywhere as excellent ventilation systems.
But that’s only thinking three steps ahead, we need to go deeper! So, I’ve just decided to place runes and wards everywhere! I don’t even know what all I’ve put in here anymore! That way, no matter what happens the enemy can’t outplay my precautions because even I couldn’t counter this madness! Anyways, that should be a good introduction to wards, glyphs, and runes! Glad I was able to…
