Trying to find older monster movie.

It was a movie I saw long ago when I was a kid so I can't say for sure how accurate my memory is but this is what I remember:

A man walking around at night being attacked by a mutated dog looking creature that rips his eye, and possibly brain, out of his eye socket.

The movie could have been from anywhere between 1970 to very early 2000.

This has been bugging me for years, if anyone could help me out I would appreciate it a lot!
