Is the DC rat population in decline?

I don’t see the rats anymore like I used to. I’m including all of 2023, not just the current cold spells.

I was the bouncer at the old Cantina Marina for a few months. I used to see capybara-sized water rats at the Wharf area. They were bigger than my dog (a Chihuahua) and gave zero fucks about you.

Now I rarely see them in Navy Yards or SW Waterfront. I don’t work nights anymore, but I still walk around a decent amount. Is it my imagination, or are there less than there used to be?
