Just got coached in the red
I got coached in the red today. I’m the main exceptions guy for my ogp team, and am constantly having to get shit out of the back, sometimes from crazy areas. I always thought they didn’t care as much about how you get shit unless you just get the job done, but I got called into the office today and had to talk with my team leads and the AP coach about me climbing onto the steel to grab something off the top. I was stupid, I should’ve been more careful, but in the moments I’m stubborn and want to get the shit. I was super honest, telling them I honestly didn’t think it was that big of an offense. Regardless they said they totally understand but per policy I’m in the red now. I’m scared and a bit ashamed honestly, this job is the only well paying one in my area and at my level since I started when ogp was still $17 an hour…. How careful do I need to be? They said my TL, the AP coach and our store manager talked and they didn’t want to let me go and not to be discouraged, but I still can’t help being on edge, especially since this lasts a year… any tips to ease my fears and get through this?
Update: I appreciate everyone helping me understand just how severe this is, I really had no idea. I’m gonna be honest, when they brought me into the office I was just worried I fucked up inventory with vizpicks and out of stocks…. My team leads and coaches are telling me not to worry, but to be careful and I definitely will be. This was a learning experience and though it has a harsh consequence, thankfully I didn’t get the worst of it and it needed to happen before I got hurt or someone else did. I’m definitely going to look into getting a walkie and possibly getting forklift certified. I’m just super thankful for my management and team leads for giving me another chance 😭🙏🏻 they’re a rare bunch as far as Walmart managers/team leads go
Update 2: My TL was the one that saved my ass, I owe her a ton for that. I’m the type of guy who will break my neck to prove myself and I never thought how I always got my exceptions accurately would bite me in the ass like this. They are now having meetings across the store about this, and you would be surprised how many ppl didn’t know the punishment for breaking workplace safety. No one else in my department knew either. They are also decidedly not taking transfers from the store I transferred from bc we had such a nonexistent understanding of the rules and company in general 💀 feel embarrassed and ashamed as fuck. I have nightmares regularly about getting fired so to come this close still has me extremely shaken. For the record, I DID admit that it was an honest mistake and I’m not trying to say I didn’t deserve punishment. I’m a dumbass and one of those ppl who needs the requirements and consequences fully explained to me, which Walmart as a whole is not very good at doing. I guess I’m at least glad I’ve been the turning point to remind the rest of the workers about this stuff, but it sucks being the dumbest clown in the circus
