best camera to record games

Edit: The goal is to do team internal analysis (both to give individuals feedback but also to do tactical analysis) without having to have anyone operate the setup during practice or a game.

I want to start recording matches. I got myself a 4m tripod and bought an XBot Go gimbal and the results were surprisingly decent (https://youtu.be/u7VAN6l-6_s?si=A1n7emHaEEzPvsJG) but the AI does end up pointing into the wrong direction too often. While it can be fixed without taking the setup down from the tripod using an Apple Watch (gives you a real time preview), the connection to the watch is flaky. Also the battery on the phone is drained super fast and not so cool when it is raining. But I think I will still want to use it to record drill where I want to focus on individuals.

So now I want to try out a different approach with a fixed camera setup that does not need to move at all to record the game using a camera that has a sufficient field of view and resolution.

One option would be using a 360 degree camera like the Insta360 X3 which seems like a straightforward solution and allows the viewer to even pan around (https://youtu.be/6xq1le8vdVQ?si=pn2eo0Eaao8beyZw) within the final recording. the X3 is capable of recording for ~90mins, so it should be enough for an entire game (though one could replace the battery during half time). it also does 170 degrees in single mode at 2.7k resolution.

Alternatively a wide angle lens could also work, like the GoPro Max Lens Mod 2.0 which offers 170 degree FOV. This way you get a high resolution “flat” view of the field. Battery life likely would require a battery swap at half time.

Yet another approach would be a :Logitech Mevo setup with 3 cameras, one at the middle and one behind each endzones. Will require more editing but could provide more details.

Regarding battery life, of course one also be dealt with an external battery pack.

I found a couple of interesting solutions: 180 Degree view: * Stitch together two videos from camera’s set at an angle with a slight overlap https://actionstitch.com * Use a hardware solution like https://reolink.com/product/reolink-duo-poe/

Create dynamic footage * Use a fixed view video with https://once.de/autocam/ (note the ActionStitch author is working on something similar).

With this you can get a Veo like experience but using standard hardware and not locked into their subscription model.
