Appropriate conversation?

I picked someone up at a mansion the other day. On the way to her house I kept looking at all the mansions and was shocked at how amazing they all looked. They were different than other mansions I’ve seen before. I wanted to ask her what she does for a living since she’s obviously very wealthy. But I’m wondering is it appropriate to ask about someone’s career? How would someone like that feel about the question? What do yall think?
