I simply cannot get over the fact that he tried to "get one over" on Jude by banishing her, thinking it would be a fun little game and that maybe she'd be impressed by his wit. And then when she didn't return, he immediately panicked and started writing her letters like, "I was just kidding. You can come back now, please."
