Appreciation post for Joey Graziadei
Watching Jenn's season is making me realize how during dates when the date has to reveal personal details about their life (which are usually some serious traumatic things), there are such few Bachelor/Bachelorette leads that really give a reaction to their dates that seems honest and empathetic. Joey was a rare person whose reactions didn't seem ingenuine/forced/fake/superficial.
When Grant was telling about his father, I was cringe-ing so hard at Jenn's "mmmhh"s ...and she was repeating things he was saying in her follow up questions. Eg. Grant: My father lied, Jenn: So you felt lied to?....And Jenn does that a lot with others as well. Her responses feel so ingenuine and like they have no emotional depth.
Ofc, it's hard to give appropriate response to this forced trauma dumping that producers encourage, but still if a lead does it well, it stands out and Joey's empathy and emotional intelligence/depth really shone in his season.
(I don't even want to remind myself of Matt's "thanks for sharing that with me" or other leads' cringe reactions)
Edit: Apparently she uses conversation techniques for empathetic responding like repeating sentences. Thanks to people on this post for telling me that. I appreciate her for that but it didn't come across as sincere from where I was sitting so.. Anyway we are all entitled to our own perception as a watcher so please try not to make accusations of micro aggressions where none exist. Also I agree with someone who said the editing is making it look bad and Jenn’s connections show that she is being empathetic.
