Shows with really intelligent plots?
I would love help finding more shows with really big, smart, thorough, well-thought-through plots, where all the details make sense. (Especially if they are mysteries!) And you have this, "what an amazing big picture" experience. Often book adaptations will do this, eg.
Ie, the opposite would be shows where it starts to build premises and then nonsensically walks all over it later on for more short-term drama. Procedurals are fine if there is deep setting consistency and metaplot, but not if they're flippant or keep hammering the same plots.
Shows I loved that count include:
- The Expanse
- Silo
- The Good Place
- Avatar
- Billions the first few seasons
- The Newsroom
- Bridgerton
- Westworld the first season
- Sherlock
- Game of Thrones the first half
- Steven Universe
The catch is that for some reason I bounce off of:
1 - Stories where plot is driven by People Who Can't Cope With Their Feelings or Communicate / Do Emotional Labor-- Breaking Bad and Broadchurch are great examples of a show I SHOULD like but just couldn't get past the lack of feelings on. (Why did I love Sherlock? It's a mystery, but I totally did :'D).
2 - grimdark/fatalist stories that are primarily about everything going wrong. Maybe this is actually connected to #1 and I just like it if it's a bit shiny?
Thank you so much for your help! :)
