HSA Married Filing Jointly
My wife and I are married filing jointly. She had a high deductible plan with HSA until August when she went part time after returning from maternity leave. She then was added on my plan.
I had a high deductible plan with HSA through my employer also as single coverage until I added our daughter in May, then wife in August.
I only contributed $500 this year to mine and she contributed about the same, outside of our employers contribution.
It is not even close to the max of $8300, so claiming all this and going through the pain in the ass paperwork still doesn’t get us above the standard deduction.
Do I still have told fill all that out and file with my taxes? I just don’t want them hunting me down because I didn’t claim this small amount down the road. After all, the way I see it, not disclosing this information would only hurt me, if anything.
