Changing 6 day to 3 day later?

Hi, I'm looking for a 3 day ticket and it hasn't come out yet - I'm buying it as a gift for my husband but have no choice but to get the 6 days. Is it possible to change it to the 3 day ticket later? Or is it not worth it anyway and might as well get the 6 days and go for 3?
