Finally sterilized!

I had a bilateral salpingectomy 2 days before Christmas! Merry Xmas to me (: I have read a lot on here that people were fine after a few days and I honestly don’t know how. I’m in between jobs right now so I am lucky with not really having a limited recovery time. I did get offered a job to start after the new year and I’ll be working with dogs so I’m a little worried about that but I think as long as I’m not lifting anything it should be okay.

My experience so far - day 3 post op:

My abdomen is swollen and my incisions are BRUISED!! Especially my belly button. I did have a leak in my glue over my belly button incision the day after surgery where I had to call my doctor and he met me up at the office on Christmas Eve to apply more glue so I wouldn’t have to go to an ER. Very nice of him. He said this bleeding was normal it was from a prick in the skin where they give epinephrine and would eventually stop but I felt better with more glue.

I STILL have not had a bowel movement. I’ve been eating when I’m hungry but also I haven’t been eating as much as usual because I haven’t had much room. I am scared to poop honestly because I don’t wanna push. I am still in pain in my stomach.

I didn’t have a catheter because I emptied my bladder right before surgery. I will say that (especially the day of and day after surgery) I had a hard time telling when I had to pee because I couldn’t distinguish what was gas pain, full bladder pain, and soreness or general pain. So when I felt like maybe I needed to go, I just sat on the toilet and it usually took me a minute to actually finish peeing because I was just trying to relax and let it happen without any coercion from my body if that makes sense?

I have 2 small incisions on my left side of stomach and 1 big one in the belly button. I was told no heavy lifting for 5 weeks but I can continue treadmill and stair master to stay active once I’m feeling better just don’t over do it. I was also told to finish my pack of birth control before quitting cold turkey so I don’t have any abnormal bleeding or I guess to minimize that?

I will say I have a high pain tolerance and I thought I would be fine post op lol I feel like I was hit by a truck!! This is also the only surgery I’ve had since I had my tonsils removed when I was a toddler. So I truly didn’t know what to expect. I did try to be prepared I brought sunglasses and a pillow to the surgery based on what people have said on here. Pillow for sure is a must for the car. I put it In between the seatbelt and my stomach.

I also had to be woken up from anesthesia with Narcan !! Because I didn’t wanna get up lmao sooo my waking up process sucked ! I had blurry vision at first, and severe nausea. They make you pee before you can leave the hospital but as soon as you pee they are basically like okay who’s your ride get out. 💀 my mom helped me get dressed back into my regular clothes and they wheeled me out. Then I came home and slept for another few hours.

I am not a fan of pills but the pain was bad enough for me to use the hydrocodone last night and the night before just for when I’m sleeping. During the day I just take the ibuprofen I was prescribed.

I know this was a little unorganized but I wanted to share my experience. If you have any questions about anything in more detail or something I may have forgot or left out feel free to ask!
