quick edit to the title: do you consider mario and sonic at the olympic winter games a sonic game?

i just want to preface that neither of us will concede to our arguments. we just want input from other people

i recently just started playing sonic adventure 2 after finally getting it to work on my steam deck. i’ve always loved sonic as a character from the shows and movies but never played any of the traditional platformer games.

i was talking to my friend a couple of days ago and said that that game was my first sonic game, and an argument ensued. he says it’s just a party game. but i personally think that it could both be considered a mario game and also a sonic game.

it has a story mode where you play as the characters. yeah maybe it’s actual classification is a party game. but i don’t think it’s insane of me and wrong of me to say that it was my first sonic game.
