Theory: There is no elevator scanner

I have a fun (or perhaps not so fun) theory.

When the personnel goes up/down the severed floor elevator, there is no "scanner" that checks whether or not you are trying to pass information between your innie and your outie. Instead, they go up/down to a transition severed floor where they enter an intermediate innie personna (like Gemma's multiple innies) where they are thoroughly checked by Lumon personnel. This innie personna lives a short life that is comprised entirely of this transition state inspection. Then they get back in the elevator where they reach their final destination.

That's perhaps why Irving could (edit: Theorytically lol) communicate with his innie with his watch using navy signals (they would not know the code) or why Reghabi told mark that burning his retinas would not last that long, not that the scanner would pick it up.

Its just a fun idea, The Lumon tech is both amazingly advanced but also at times weirdly "manual" and "retro". Like MDR is scanning files manually by feeling it? Using a keyboard? But also they invented severance? It makes me think of cassette futurism.

Just a thought.
