Help with assessing my pc's performance in Marvel rivals.
I'll first give my pc's specs Ryzen 5 8500g (stock cooler set to max speed) sapphire pulse rx6600 32gb Ram (dual channel) gigabyte p450b 80+bronze 450watt psu 1440p monitor (185hz)
I'm not fully knowledgeable in pc gaming so keep that in mind. So, in Marvel rivals, with the graphic settings set to medium (only effects and foliage set to low) at native 1080p resolution, I got around 60 fps but when the match got intensive it would frequently drop to below 50 fps and even touch 40 fps. Then, when i used amd fsr at "performance" and scale it to 80%, the fps got better, it would get around 85 fps but the 1% lows were still below 50fps. I thought this is just what my pc was capable of and went with it for a couple of weeks.
I also have to mention that there were frequent stutters, every 30 seconds or so which i didn't know how to fix. the game was playable but it would be noticeable.
Now, i wanted to try something different, so in amd adrenaline, I turned on "afmf 2" thinking it would be helpful and it simply wasn't, the fps tanked, there was noticeable input lag and the game looked choppy so i turned it off. then I tried "radeon super resolution" and it didn't affect the fps much but the image looked a little sharper but there was lot of shimmering on objects in the game.
Then I noticed "Amd fsr 3 frame generation" in the game settings (lot of youtube videos told to avoid it), i turned it on expecting the same result as when I tried afmf 2 but this is where things are different.
After turning it on the game automatically set the resolution to 1440p which I couldn't change and the fps cap button was also disabled. then I jumped into a match to see how it was and now the fps was anywhere between 110 -140fps and the 1% lows ranging between 95 - 120. I expected it to go well below 60fps when there was a lot going on in the screen but it didn't, the game was smooth, the stuttering went away and I couldn't notice any input lag. A couple of matches went by with the game feeling smooth for me, the graphics looking ok, nothing out of the ordinary. I also noticed the "avg frame time" ranging between 7ms to 12ms (i don't know what number is acceptable).
the gameplay feels smooth, no stutters or dramatic fps drops, graphics looking ok and i genuinely can't notice any input delay so now this is fine right?
I also have to mention that my gpu utilisation with this fsr 3 frame generation is consistently above 95% with the power draw hitting a max 100Watts. is that ok?
another thing is when i tried to use msi afterburner/riva tuner statistics the game just crashed and my pc restarted which scared me a little. I've resorted to using the amd adrenaline overlay for fps tracking and have open hardware monitor in the background running to keep track of temps. the game also crashes when I trying to alt tab into another application. other than these 2 issues the game runs fine.
please give your opinion on this matter and thank you for reading my post, have a nice day.
