Can someone knowledgeable in tech on this sub please explain to me how CGI/VFX is comparable to generative AI or inspiration?

Hey everyone! Hope you're all having a good day!

So I know with the discussion of The Brutalist's production lately, we've had a lot of discussion on generative AI. Putting what happened with The Brutalist aside, I've seen a very surprising amount of comments from people saying comments such as "Generative AI is just another tool like CGI and VFX" or "People are inspired by existing stories or writing/pay homage to existing films or books, therefore if we wanna say using AI for writing is plagiarism, then we're all committing plagiarism already"

I have to admit I'm not the most tech savvy person, but from my understanding of generative AI, I just have a lot of trouble understanding these takes and cannot agree. It comes off to me at least very disrespectful of the hard work that many animators, CGI/VFX artists, graphic designers, and screenwriters do to claim that they plagiarize constantly simply because they are inspired by existing work and say this is the same as what generative AI does since generative AI cannot give you something without compiling sources and already existing material without the original creators' permission and consent.

A big part of the Oscars is recognizing talent in VFX work and screenwriting, and I believe that both creative VFX and screenwriting are very important parts of the film so I've just been shocked to see people say things like that. It just comes across very disrespectful to me of the work artists do and the films they create.
