Checked my 12VHPWR Adapter
...and it seems fine. Imgur album here.
Just to get it out of the way up front - I am NOT saying there isn't a problem. There very clearly is. The fact this is happening at all on a halo product is extremely dumb, and I'm annoyed that I even had to check to see if there was a problem. I've moved back to my other graphics card for now until my new cable arrives / Nvidia provides clarity on what is going on.
Okay, with that out of the way, here's some more info:
- Card: Gigabyte Gaming OC
- Ordered from Best Buy, picked up and installed on October 17th
- It's been a fairly busy last 2 weeks (and I purposefully wasn't using it the last few days), so I've put about 15 hours of gaming use on this thing so far. Probably another 15 hours of light use (web browsing).
- I did immediately limit the max power draw to 75% before I did anything graphically intensive (given the power scaling results that showed very diminishing returns).
- Some of my gaming workloads underutilized the card a bit, but plenty of it did reach full utilization (at the reduced power limit I set).
- You can notice that my adapter had to be bent some amount in order to fit in the case (because of course it did, there's literally no way not to). I was deliberate when I installed to only do the bend once after the cables were plugged into it, and I plugged the cables into the adapter in a way so that I could try to fan them out in order to reduce (but definitely not eliminate) the lateral strain.
So what I can conclude? Honestly, nothing. I'm not sure this post is even helpful, but I already uninstalled the card and took the pictures, so why not. I guess my main conclusion is to check your card / adapter, even if it's still working.
I'm glad I checked, and that I've switched back to my other card for now. No matter what the reason is that mine seems okay (whether the cable itself, the specific way I handled the cable, or the reduced power limit), this whole situation is dumb. Better safe than sorry.
