Language barriers
How do you approach patients that don't speak English? Primarily in triage where it's high paced and speed is a must!
CONTEXT: I am the sole nurse in the department that speaks Spanish and I can see how often patients get mistriaged . We ran the numbers and our Spanish speakers wait up to twice as long as regular pt's to be seen since the team (MD/RN) has to wait for interpreter! We have interpreters in house but not in the ED so waiting 20+ mins for them to get there to triage someone is not realistic (especially if the kid looks sick). Tell me your processes!
