The Fall of the Project Riptide
I started playing MTG back on 2002 because a friend of mine gifted me a sliver from Onslaught block and they are my favorite creature type since then (to the point I collect them). I loved their weird snake form, neat design of sharing skills, and also their flavor text was really interesting.
More than twenty years later I've decided to read the three Onslaught block books and besides how weird their story is it also doesn't mention the slivers at all. As you can imagine the trilogy was a really disappointing read for me so I've checked again the sliver cards that make me falling in love with this game and here is their flavor texts explaining the fall of the Project Riptide, arranged chronologically:
Context
[[Llawan, Cephalid Empress]] began the Riptide Project to fostering peace with the humans of Otaria. Humans and cephalids will research, learn and seek for scientific knowledge together at the secretive Riptide Labs.
While exploring the area once known as Urborg, wizards from the Riptide Project found the remains of an unknown creature in the ruins of a massive stronghold. Fascinated, they decided to bring this mysterious species back to life for study. (Legions Player's Guide)
The Riptide Project eventually succeeded beyond its wildest dreams, creating entirely new types of slivers through their experiments. However, with the sliver queen long dead, these slivers proved impossible to tame and they bred wildly out of control. It didn’t take long for the slivers to overcome the Riptide wizards and take the island as their own. Who knows what will happen once they cross thesea to the main continent? (Legions Player's Guide)

[[Spectral Sliver]] “Sure, I’ve seen agents of the Cabal here and there. Well, not here, and certainly not in any of the sliver labs. Oh dear, I’ve said too much.”
—Apprentice researcher
[[Mistform Sliver]] Taking the form of a junior researcher, the first sliver slipped out of Riptide.
[[Ward Sliver]] The first wave of slivers perished from the Riptide wizards’ magic. The second wave shrugged off their spells like water.
[[Shifting Sliver]] Once the last few slivers the Riptide Project controlled were dead, there was nothing to keep the island from being completely overrun.
[[Crypt Sliver]] “Death couldn’t contain the slivers. What made us think we could?”
—Riptide Project researcher
[[Root Sliver]] “It would take another apocalypse to stop the slivers now.”
—Riptide Project researcher
[[Fugitive Wizard]] Many wizards came to the Riptide Project hoping to return home with answers. Most, however, wouldn’t return home at all.
[[Uncontrolled Infestation]] The grounds of the Riptide Project are now populated only by slivers, broken beakers, and the lonely screeching of gulls.
[[Blade Sliver]] After breaking free from the Riptide Project, the slivers quickly adapted to life on Otaria—much to the dismay of life on Otaria.
[[Brood Sliver]] Within weeks, more slivers nested in Otaria than ever existed on Rath.
