What if that gunshot killed Orel?

God can you imagine how devastating that would be? When Clay passed out, would Orel's body just be sitting there, slowly dying until eventually fully deceased for days? Would Clay even tell the truth when he came back? Imagine how much more terrible the episode Hope is when at that end when Rev Putty looks where Orel is sitting and Orel just looks away except this time Rev Putty will just be looking at an empty seat.
