Struggling with blonde hair - need help

Trying to use Vince V’s guide to painting blonde hair on this Vampire Lord but really struggling. The lack of texture and the lack of space is beyond my skill to manage. As Vince V suggests I’m trying to work with dark brown, mid brown, light brown and pastel yellow. The main part of the head I think I can improve but really struggling with the longer hair (and the bats are getting in the way too!.

Would welcome tips on how to develop this
