Another Move By Loblaw To Deter Competition
I thought this was a joke. This is a mock-up of a new banner being launched, shared by Loblaw's CEO. They screenshotted the no-name logo on a picture.
These stores are expected to open near the Canadian and USA border towns in Southern Ontario and are a 100% knockoff of Aldi. Knowing how Loblaw is, this is 100% aimed at preventing Aldi from expanding into Canada.
Expanding to southern Ontario, near the border, would have been an ideal expansion strategy for Aldi. Loblaw conveniently opens a banner that knocks Aldi off on the same route they would have chosen. It is safe to assume that Loblaw will not open this anywhere else.
