Moving to Limerick from Barcelona as an EU citizen.
Hi everyone,
I am considering moving to Limerick from Barcelona, Spain. My wife and I are both English speakers, and we have EU passports. We have three kids who are enrolled in local Spanish schools here, and as we speak English at home. Two of our kids have mild autism. It has been very difficult for them to adjust in local schools here - language is the main issue. International schools are ridiculously expensive, and we feel like we don't belong here.
My job fortunately allows me to move to any EU country where we have operations, and Ireland is one of them. Reading about Limerick, it seems like a great place to restart life. I am just getting good vibes from there!
It would be very helpful if you could share with me the key documents needed for an EU citizen who already has a job to move in there. For example, I know we would not need any work permits. Could I easily open a bank account? Would landlords trust a foreigner and rent their apartment out? What's the lowest rent I would expect to pay for an apartment (I plan to rent during the first year but maybe in an area close to good public schools - maybe there are also good public schools far away from the centre where it's cheaper)? Could you please suggest some good neighborhoods? How should I move in - like should I initially rent an Airbnb? Will I need an address straight away for the PPS number/bank account (I read about this PPS number in a few places, but still trying to figure it out) - appreciate your thoughts/guidance. I am thinking of moving in summer so there is enogh time before the school enrolment.
Thanks in advance!
