Worth it to Volunteer in a Lab?
I graduated about a year ago with a degree in Biology, and unfortunately with basically zero research experience aside from what was learned in course work labs (and even that was relatively questionable due to online schooling from Covid). I've been trying to break into research for a while, but haven't had any luck applying to lab tech or research assistant positions. Would it be worth it for me to try to volunteer part time in a lab? I live in LA, so there are plenty of large academic institutions that do research related to medicine (what I'm interested in), but I'm not sure if they're even allowed to have non-student/hired volunteers in their labs. And, if it is allowed, I would love some recommendations on how to go about reaching out to labs and PI's. Any advice is appreciated!
