[kCD1] How to use these sword perks

Do you actually have to hit these prompts thay it gives you in the star thay comes up when you agro to get these perks to work because if that’s the case I just don’t see how they would work very well consider your supposed to hit 3 different places on the star without getting attacked while doing so any insight would be helpful
