Force feedback settings?

I have the Asatek forte wheelbase set to 13 nm (high torque setting whatever that does) and when I set IRacing to auto, it sets wheel force to 18 nm which I believe is the max total for the wheelbase causing my F bar to go full red many times in Ferrari gt3 and f4. No problems in the slower classes like mx5 or formula Vee.

I guess IRacing is picking up on auto what the total capacity output is of the wheelbase, not what it is set to. Does this mean I should not use auto and use a setting like above? New to sim racing so appreciate any guidance.
