Help! Broken heat and frozen pipes
Update: Gas company came and fixed furnace overnight and heat is restored! I fortunately had turned off the water to the house so the puddle in the basement is manageable with a wet/dry vac because pipes did burst in at least two spots. If anyone happens to know a plumber they'd be willing to share in Chittenden county VT I would greatly appreciate!
I’m freaking out. I bought a duplex late last year in the hopes of subsidizing my living costs as a single person. It’s been so difficult.
I live in the upstairs unit of the house, and the downstairs unit has been unoccupied for a month waiting for the new tenants to move in (they’re supposed to move in tomorrow actually).
I checked on the unit last night only to find the heat out and frozen pipes in this -15 degree weather we’re having in Vermont. I’m at my wits end.
My gas company is supposed to come at some point, and I’ll do the best I can to thaw the pipes slowly but was hoping anyone might have any advice for me on potentially needing to replace a furnace in winter and preventing burst pipes when yours freeze.
The house is old (1910) and I’ve only been bleeding money since I bought the place. I finally felt like I could see the light at the end of the tunnel with people moving in this weekend, and then this happened. Feels like the worst decision of my life
