Traumatic pet death....

Please be kind, this is awful enough. I am posting to make sure nobody else experiences this...

TW - traumatic death...

Littlefoot has been with us for 3 years and one week. Littlefoot came to us from a rescue centre, we had a ferret before (Bandit) and Bandit lived with us for 7 years before passing away from cancer. I never thought we would get another ferret, but 6 months after Bandit died a friend approached us and said a local rescue centre had a ferret that they couldn't keep, and could we help?

When Littlefoot came to us she was overweight and under-stimulated, the rescue centre had looked after her to the best of their ability but she needed more... so we took her. And for 3 years she lived a ferret royalty life, she travelled with us around the UK and dooked a lot! She brought serious toddler energy to our family, she was mischievous and funny and lovable.

On Sunday my daughter was loading the washing machine while my son cleaned Littlefoot's cage.... they both thought she was upstairs, because she likes to hide upstairs! My daughter loaded the washing machine and turned it on....

Twenty minutes later we were looking for Littlefoot, both children were convinced she was upstairs. Littlefoot wasn't upstairs, she was in the washing machine. My son found her when he unloaded the washing machine. I tried resuscitation but it was too late, she was gone.

We are heartbroken. We're all experiencing flashbacks and intrusive thoughts, my daughter is blaming herself and so, this is not easy.

We are grieving, so much - Littlefoot was small but a huge character. I am trying to focus on the fact she had 3 amazing years with us, but the ending was just.... I feel sick all the time.

Please, PLEASE check where your furry babies are before turning anything on.

Photo of our awesome Littlefoot - I am so sorry, and I hope you know how much we love you.
