I'm a little annoyed with The Aqueduct quest. Spoiler warning for those who haven't played it.

So, I recently did The Aqueduct quest in Egypt. For those of you who haven't played it and ignored the spoiler warning, a group of Roman legionnaires of Legio Prima Italica was ordered by Lucullus, before his death, to protect the workers building an aqueduct that is to transport water to the Roman territory of Cyrenaica. This amounts to stealing water from the lands of one of the tribes of Nasamones, and this tribe is not happy about that. They've sent a group of tribesmen to stop the build.

And the only way to resolve this situation is to outright kill either the Roman legionnaires guarding the construction site or the tribesmen sent to stop it.

First of all, if you decide to side with the tribesmen, it is my understanding that you have to outright attack the Roman legionnaires guarding the construction site without trying diplomacy or authority first. These are law-abiding Roman legionnaires that are literally just doing their jobs and following orders. It's like the game temporarily forgets you're a Roman Legatus. You don't have the option of ordering the legionnaires to stop the construction as the sole remaining Roman authority in the region. You don't even have the option of trying to bribe them to get them to stop. Why can't you secretly sabotage the construction and make them leave that way? You can't even tell them that Lucullus, who is probably the one who gave them their orders, is dead. No, the only option you have is to outright attack your fellow legionnaires and thus commit treason. Even for a player character who feels empathy for the tribesmen (which mine does), this does not feel like something they would do, because again, they're a Roman Legatus.

As for siding with the Roman Legionnaires guarding the construction site, if I remember correctly you can actually ask the tribesmen to leave, but they'll refuse. Whereupon the only options you have other than leaving is to say "Guess I'll have to kill you, then. Suits me just fine." And first of all...no. It most certainly does not suit my character just fine. She feels empathy for the tribesmen and wants the construction to stop, but she's a Roman Legatus and attacking and murdering fellow Roman legionnaires who are only following their orders is simply not an option.

I love the game, but I don't like this one quest. It's like the game tried to force you to choose in a moral dilemma by taking logical options away from you.
