Is the DR650 a good beginner bike?

Im wanting to get into adventure riding/dual purpose riding. I’ve never driven motorcycles before but i I’m pretty positive this is the side of motorcycles I want to get into!

Edit: ima also a college student in Texas, I’ve been looking for trails and off reading spots but I’m not 100% on what I’m looking for. I’d more than likely be using it a lot for cruising and traversing the hill country. I love the idea of be able to just go off road but I’m not sure where I could.
