Colleges Are Giving Way Too Much Importance to Instagram Influencers
Is it just me, or are colleges starting to prioritize Instagram influencers over actual merit? I’ve been noticing that many universities are giving special treatment to students with a big social media following—whether it’s admission perks, brand deals, or being featured in marketing campaigns.
It’s wild how some students with thousands of followers get invited to exclusive events, offered collaborations with the school, or even given scholarships and perks that regular students don’t have access to. Meanwhile, students who are excelling in academics, research, or extracurriculars barely get any recognition.
I get that social media is a huge marketing tool, and colleges want to attract more applicants by showing off their "cool" students. But shouldn’t the focus be on education and actual achievements rather than who has the best Instagram aesthetic?
What do you guys think? Have you seen this happening at your college.
