Are cycling shoes worth it?

Ever since I started I’ve been using a pair of Nike Downshifter 13 as my training shoes. My feet hurt after like 7KM. If I would buy cycling shoes, what brand and I also need a cheap price. I started cycling about a year ago, I don’t ride much because of school and I need to catch sleep to function well. So I can’t really endure the long rides.
