First time filmmaker - got tips?

I’m thrilled (and a little nervous) to share that I’ll be shooting my first short film soon! The budget is secured, and I’m working with a great DP to bring this story to life. As a first-timer, I want to make sure I’m as prepared as possible and would love to hear your tips.

1. What’s the best way to communicate my vision to the DP while allowing room for their creativity?
2. How can I balance creative ambition with staying on schedule?
3. What’s something new directors often overlook in working with the camera team?
4. Any tips for prioritizing shots when time runs short?
5. What pre-production steps are most valuable for a smooth shoot from a cinematography standpoint?

Please respond to what you can. Thanks in advance. I appreciate you!
