First Full PC build. $2.5K USD budget. Need help picking Mobo and other stuff.

My old PC is getting on it's last legs and I think it's finally time for me to build a new one.

I've never fully built a PC before, but I have upgraded the Dell XPS9000 I've been using for the past ~5 years so I'm pretty confident that I won't have too much trouble building a machine myself. With that said, I have a budget of around $2.5k USD (can go a couple hundred higher but maybe not higher than $3k) and need help with picking out the parts that I need and finding the best place to buy them from.

I'm mainly basing this build off the Logical Increments website's "Enthusiast" build.

The "Enthusiast" build consists of:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
  • GPU: EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Black Edition
  • HSF: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4
  • Mobo: ASRock X570 STEEL LEGEND
  • RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws V 16GB (2 x 8GB) 3200MHz
  • HDD: Western Digital Blue 2TB
  • SSD: Intel 660p 1TB
  • PSU: SeaSonic FOCUS 850PX
  • Case: Phanteks Enthoo Primo
  • OS: Windows 10

I pretty much want to keep everything in the build the same except for the CPU.

I'm hoping to change that into an i9 9900K if possible, as I've never had an AMD cpu before and would prefer to stick with what I know for the most part. Also, a lot of emulators tend to work best with Intel CPUs as far as I know. I'm not sure what to look for in a new motherboard that would support an Intel i9 processor and that's the main thing I need help with.

I've already looked at most of the items on Amazon and NewEgg and was wondering if there are any other sites I should be looking at as well.

I'm mainly going to be playing video games but being able to render and process things might come in handy in the future so being able to do that would be nice too. But mainly just gaming/recreational focused for the most part.

Finally, I have a decent set of screwdrivers, but I'm guessing that won't suffice for a full build and was wondering if there are any tools you would recommend that I buy for this build.

Any help and advice is very much appreciated.
