if you mod the game, are you prevented from progressing?

About 2 years back i had modded the game and tried to see how high of a round I could get to with infinite money, didn't play co-op or anything. I started playing a lot again recently (completely legit) the past month or so and I notice I've gotten to round 100 exactly 89 times and I'm the exact same level. haven't leveled once, gotten insane amounts of pops and gone through so many rounds with so many monkeys and they haven't gotten a single bit of exp.. is this some sort of punishment?
