Confused about newborn’s reaction to first ever bottle- seeking advice
Hey everyone! I have a 6 almost 7 week old EBF baby girl. We just gave her her first bottle tonight to make sure that she’ll take one because I have to have a procedure done and will be away from her for the first time this week. We gave her 2 oz of breast milk that I had literally just pumped in a glass Philips avent bottle with the flow 2 nipple made for 0m+ My husband gave it to her while I sat a few feet away. She is a chugger/ gulper at the breast when I have letdowns, but I didn’t expect her to chug this entire bottle the way she did? She immediately took to it and chugged it in a minute or two. There was a point where she started choking so my husband took it away, she choked and coughed and then started screaming and crying hysterically, and that started up again after she finished. Right after she finished I breastfed her for about a minute and then she fell asleep very content. I just ordered the flow 1 nipple since the Phillips Avent instruction video says to use a lower number if baby gulps the milk, so we’ll see if that helps. But could anyone help me make sense of her reaction? I’m not sure if it’s just the mom guilt but I was wondering if she was so upset because it wasn’t the breast? And I’m assuming it’s not normal for baby to chug and finish 2 oz so quickly? Was she upset because she drank so fast her body couldn’t tell her brain she was full yet? Thank you in advance for any input!
