A friend is starting the journey

I am in my late 30’s and have a buddy starting the same journey I did about a year ago. He’s getting back into cards in the same steps I did.

1. Buying retail thinking every $2 insert or $5 numbered card you pull is worth $100’s. God forbid he hits an auto then he’ll think he’s ready to retire.
2. Buy an insane amount of card protection for said $2 inserts. Gotta put that $2 card in a one touch!!
3. Moving into hobby boxes and thinking he’ll hit a “monster.”
4. Get sucked into breaking and blow tons of money on base cards.
5. Realize he just blew an insane amount of money that he could have used to build a really solid collection if he had just bought singles.

I want to tell him to skip to 5 but he must learn the way 🫡.
