Where to live? Single female in her 30's.
I want to preface this by saying that I don't want to offend anyone here! San Diego is an incredible place with so much beauty. I need some help making it work.
I am an east coast girl that has spent a great deal of time in California. This year, I finally decided to move here since I absolutely love surfing and biking to the beach. However, I'm struggling to find a neighborhood that is the right fit for me.
My goal is to live biking distance to a decent beach for surfing (non-negotiable), so I've been staying in Pacific Beach in an airbnb to apartment hunt. At first, I LOVED how bikeable it is! It has everything - trader joe's, etc. and a surfing beach (Tourmaline/Law Street). It felt like paradise.
Well, the more time I spend here the more I feel like it's not the right fit. I don't drink alcohol or party, and I understand it's not like PB requires you to live like that, but it appears that's a big part of the culture. Every corner is a sports bar and men scream at me drunk when I walk on the street. I've been on a lot of dates with guys here and they are all pretty fratty - living in a big party house with a bunch of roommates drinking beer everyday. Again, that's just been my experience!
Do you have recommendations for places I could live that are biking distance to a decent beach with surfing AND would be good for a single woman in her 30's who is rushing to find Mr. Right not Mr. Frat House?
I am considering La Jolla but I'm not sure if there's enough young people there. I know that North County (Carlsbad, etc.) is mostly families.
Please help me make San Diego work for me! I am considering Huntington Beach in Orange County too so I'd love feedback on there too if you are familiar.
