Travis….

Im gonna be the one to say it since I don’t see people often talking about it. The Travis hate is very unnecessary. I think the reason people hate Travis is because in season 1 especially, yes he was a bit of an asshole. He was a dick to the girls after they first crashed. He was screwing with Natalie trying to get her to mess up her shot, he was a bit sexist too when asking Natalie how many guys she’d been with. But let’s look at this from a deeper perspective. If your dad was the soccer coach for a team, and you weren’t even on that team, and yet you were still forced to go on the trip, and then the plane that you were on crashed, and help didn’t seem to be coming, wouldn’t that put YOU in an eternal bad mood as well? Now, you see your own father impaled through the chest on a tree branch. He’s dead. Wouldn’t that also screw you up for life? You also have your 12 year old brother stranded right alongside you, who you now have to take care of all by yourself, and you have to slightly contend with the fact that even worse than you possibly never being rescued, your even more innocent 12 year old brother might possibly die in the wilderness. Wouldn’t that also mess with your head? As for what happens with Natalie, I think this is nothing more than an insecure teenager being insecure about himself and his worth. He didn’t want Natalie to be a good shot because he wanted to prove his usefulness. He should have never pointed that gun at her, it was a dick move, but It was simply part of a misguided thought process from someone who wanted to regain some type of control over a traumatic situation. And yes, he did ask Natalie how many guys she’d slept with before him, but that’s one again nothing more than a teenager being insecure. And in the end, he wasn’t looking at Natalie as some type of quick sexual experience, or a story to tell his friends back home. The guy in the season 1 finale, tears in his eyes, telling Natalie he wishes the girls had just murdered him at doomcoming, tells Natalie that he loves her. At his core he’s not a bad guy. He apologized to Natalie in season 2 for calling her horrible names after she faked Javis death. And during the picking of cards, Travis was safe, and then Javi was safe. Natalie was chosen, and Travis could’ve just said “fuck it, my brother is safe at least. It is what it is, she’s not family.” But he risked his own life by tackling Shauna to the ground to give Natalie the faintest bit of time to make a run for it. The girls literally having a knife to his throat too. But would such a bad guy have done that for someone he has no true obligation at that to help? They weren’t together anymore. Oh and let’s not mention the fact that the girls literally sexually assaulted him during Doomcoming. The guy was literally raped. The fact that he could even look any of them in the eyes after that shows some true strength on his part. And not to mention, you know, THEY KILLED AND ATE HIS BROTHER?? Not a single one of them even really seemed to feel bad about it. They just said it was the wilderness choosing. He literally felt sick after eating him for survivals sake. And yet he’s still willing to help out the group and be apart of it in season 3. I guess my point is, Travis may have his flaws, but he’s not this demon that people have tried to make him out to be in the past. He’s a teenager who’s apart of this fucked up situation just as much as any of the girls are. And in many cases, he’s lost alot more than most of them. So give the guy a break.
