In the Episode *One Breath*, what is the significance of Nurse Owens?

I've seen this episode a ton of times and I get that she's helping Scully through her near-death episode, but I don't recall ever hearing about or seeing her again. Is she just acting as sort of a spirit animal, or was there another purpose for her?

I also noticed for the first time that her first initial is "G". Was wondering if that correlated to anything else.
