How do I make sense of losing weight, but mostly due to loss of muscle mass?
Hello fellow weight losers,
I've recently been on a path towards losing weight for my wedding, and my workout is mostly cardio-based from boxing, and I have decreased my caloric intake as part of the diet.
I have been relying on Dexa scans to track my goals. I've taken two so far, and here's the results I received today compared to my first test (taken on 12/1/24) :
- Total weight: 203.7 lbs -> 195.9 lbs
- Fat mass: 66.6 lbs -> 64.7 lbs
- Lean mass: 130.4 lbs -> 124.2 lbs
- Body fat percentage -> 32.7 -> 33.1%
A couple of things that bother me about the results is that I lost 6 lbs of lean mass and only 2 pounds of fat mass, as well as the increase of body fat percentage (I understand that's a reflection of losing more lean mass).
Has anyone experienced the same thing and have any guidance on how they approached this? Am I tracking well, even though the lean mass loss is 3 times more than the fat loss? Any thoughts are appreciated.
