Charlottesville, Richmond, or Fredricksburg - looking to move possibly.

A friend recommended these 3 cities to possibly move to in the next few months. I’m 30F, childfree, and will be recently divorced. I have a dog and cat. I like being between both mountains and beach, but prefer mountains. Definitely love cities / suburbs of cities. Somewhere just more progressive for sure. Any pros and cons for the areas listed? Any other suggestions?
