Have you noticed general declines in quality on your course recently?
First of all, I am in no way personally critical of any uni members of staff, however my experience in relation to all aspects of engaging with staff etc since September feels significantly negative compared to before.
I am a part-time masters student, so think that will have some impact as I only have contact 1-2 times per week.
My course leader left over the summer and was not replaced. It appears the module leaders who are overseeing the different parts of the course instead have been drafted in from other courses. I feel like this reflects in the quality of the teaching, as well as their communication and general manner/enthusiasm lacking too. Emails going weeks without being answered and dismissed by module leads who ‘know nothing about me’ when I enquired out something before the module started. It feels like my communication is not important because I’m not doing ‘their course’ and they’ve been parachuted in (which I think is almost certainly the case as it took ages for uni to confirm who was going to be teaching the modules). I am also certain that my next assignment result will not be released on time on Weds either, no real proof about that other than vibes that an apology email will be coming our way Thursday morning!
I also have a public sector role full-time so can sympathise with this ‘doing more with less’ culture that appears to exist in society at the moment, especially as I know uni finances are in dire straits.
I’d be lying if I said I was fine with the shift in quality across the board as what I am receiving is significantly worse than before my Course Leader departed.
Am I OTT with how I’m feeling? Is this a problem nationally or just a my uni problem.
I am intrigued to hear the thoughts of others.
