Finally diagnosed after 4 years.
I had my first flare up when I was pregnant 4 years ago meaning I couldn’t have a colonoscopy. Everything cleared up for a few years after baby was born and when I had my next flare up it was pretty minor and by the time I got my colonoscopy everything looked okay and I was discharged from Gastro. In the past year my symptoms reappeared and got pretty bad. Having been told I don’t have Colitis I felt silly going to my GP again so I tried changing my diet thinking I may have some food intolerance. I eventually had to seek medical attention when the amount of blood I was passing became quite alarming and I got an urgent colonoscopy which showed I was indeed having a nasty UC flare. After the scope I was sent on my way and I’ve now been 2 months with zero follow up or medication and I’m really starting to struggle. My symptoms are disrupting my daily life and I’ve had to take time off work. Is it normal to be left untreated after being diagnosed? My GP was shocked but couldn’t help as it has to be a specialist who starts me on the medication. I’ve been feeling really low about it all and barely leave the house for fear of not having immediate access to my own bathroom.
