Muslim Wanting to Join USMC

I’m a Muslim and has been wanting to join the marines and I will. I just wanted to know if it’s a bad thing for me and will I get treated differently by the people I’m with. My friend is in the marines doing his side mos as MSG currently in Nigeria. He’s also a Muslim and told me “the people you meet will eventually accept who you are and you all will become brothers”. Is that true? I only ask this because 5 years ago a Muslim marine recruit killed himself due to a DI assaulting him.
