American liberals and centrists often covertly support the Americanization of the world
It's something that many Europeans dislike, I, for example, believe that the US shouldn't have military bases in Italy and Portugal, where I hold a citizenship in one and remote job in another.
Being in the United States, I see so many Americans having this attitude that it is their duty to be Europe's security guard. The cost is more heavy for the Europeans than it is for the Americans.
Many Europeans don't like the fact that they have to communicate on American platforms like Reddit, Facebook, What'sApp, YouTube, X, Twitch, Google, etc...
Many Americans want Europe (together with Latin America and the Arab States) to be essentially Americanistic in its nature. To follow American consumer trends.
It's great to be allies, it's wonderful to stay strong and defend each other. But that isn't the whole picture, the bigger picture is that Europeans, Latin Americans, Arabs, etc... have largely been Americanized as a consequence of 1st wave of Americanization back in the cold war, and the second wave during the 21st century.
Even Russia and China! There are plenty of American products there, particularly cultural products. Two Disney worlds in China, for example.
It's certainly more subtle and benign than the British empire, but it's still an empire. But instead of subjects it's consumers perpetually hooked to American companies.
